MEET DR. ZAYED

I received my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the University of Ottawa and completed my clinical psychology residency at London Health Sciences Centre. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Western Ontario (Western University) in the areas of trauma and dissociation. I am registered as a psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to provide services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I am a member of the Ontario Psychological Association.

I have served as treasurer, vice president, president, and past president of the London Regional Psychological Association. I have also served as a reviewer for the Quality Assurance Committee of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I hold adjunct professorships at the University of Western Ontario in the Department of Psychiatry (Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry) and the Department of Psychology.

I have acquired a broad range of professional experience at a variety of locations, including the London Health Sciences Centre, the Child and Parent Resource Institute, the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), the Centre for Psychological Services at the University of Ottawa, the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa, and the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.

Throughout my career, I have offered assessment and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults across a broad range of issues and struggles. I have received extensive specialized training in the assessment and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, and of complex developmental trauma and its consequences, including attachment disturbances and disorders, dissociation, struggles with sexuality, and personality disorders. Based on my expertise in these areas, I offer various specialized trauma and attachment services.

 TRAUMA AND ATTACHMENT QUALIFICATIONS

I completed my post-doctoral research fellowship in the area of trauma and dissociation at the University of Western Ontario's Department of Psychiatry. I have remained involved in research on trauma and attachment and have presented that research nationally and internationally.

I have undertaken comprehensive training in the assessment and treatment of trauma and of attachment disturbances/disorders, and have received associated certifications. I have worked closely with Dr. Robert Marvin, Director of the Mary Ainsworth Clinic and one of the developers of the Circle of Security™ attachment model, and I am certified in Circle of Security™ assessment and treatment.

circle of peopleI worked at CPRI, a provincial mental health centre, for over 10 years in the trauma and attachment clinic, and was the Clinic Lead for 5 of those years. I have supervised, mentored, and educated a range of mental health professionals working in the areas of trauma and attachment, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. I have conducted over 200 presentations and workshops for diverse audiences throughout Ontario and across Canada on topics related to trauma and attachment. I have been called on to conduct court-based trauma, attachment, and parenting assessments, and to provide expert testimony on such matters.

Through my numerous professional endeavors, I have applied principles of attachment and trauma informed care to the assessment, treatment, and caregiving of children within numerous community contexts, including hospitals, schools, mental health agencies, child welfare agencies, adoption agencies, residential group homes, and the homes of biological, adoptive, and foster parents.
