At Zayed Psychological Services (ZPS), psychotherapy for trauma and attachment struggles is available. This includes treatment for children, adolescents, and adults, and may take the form of individual, couple, or family therapy, or parenting guidance to help parents help their children. Please refer to the Treatment Services page for further details about these treatments.
ZPS offers highly specialized assessments examining the impact of negative/adverse life experiences on the psychological functioning of children, adolescents, and adults. The objectives of these assessments can include the following:
These assessments provide an understanding of the individual's struggles, help explain his/her complex behaviours, and generate recommendations regarding future planning and intervention for the patient, his/her caregivers, teachers, and/or professionals.
A psychoeducational assessment component can be added to these comprehensive mental health assessments. This component involves the examination of cognitive/intellectual and academic functioning, as well as various information processing skills essential to learning (e.g., memory, processing speed). A psychoeducational assessment component can help identify learning or intellectual disabilities, which may require more comprehensive assessment of adaptive skills deficits. The results of a psychoeducational component can guide practical recommendations for supporting learning at home and school, or functioning in the workplace.
ZPS offers specialized workshops and presentations on topics within the interrelated areas of posttraumatic stress disorder, complex trauma or developmental trauma, healthy secure attachment, and attachment struggles (i.e., disturbances of attachment and attachment disorders). If you are seeking individual supervision or consultation in the areas of trauma and attachment, for yourself as a practitioner or on behalf of an organization, please refer to the Services for Practitioners and Organizations page.
Workshops/Presentations can:
Specialized Trauma and Attachment Assessments are invoiced at $225.00 per hour ($250.00 for legal purposes). Typical trauma and attachment assessments are conducted within five to ten hours and assessment reports usually require up to ten hours to produce, depending on the breadth and extent of the issues being assessed. Preparing an assessment report for legal purposes tends to be a more extensive process and may require an additional five hours. For children and adolescents, a fully comprehensive trauma and attachment package is available. This package includes interviews, administration of assessment tools, scoring and interpretation of assessment data, completion of a report, and a feedback session. Additionally, a less comprehensive report which preserves the privacy of the patient is produced for the school or workplace, which can be used to assist in the development of accommodations (e.g., an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in the school system). The cost of this package is $3850.00, with the addition of a psychoeducational component raising the cost to $6000.00. Any further clinical service is billed at the rate of $225.00 per hour. Additional clinical work conducted for a legal purpose is billed at the rate of $250.00 per hour. Payment may be made by cash, certified cheque, Interac Debit, or Interac e-Transfer.
Psychological services are not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Our services are covered in part or full by most extended health care plans (e.g., workplace and student benefits) and by some government programs (e.g., Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, Veterans Affairs Canada). For income tax purposes, psychological services can be claimed as a medical expense.
Agencies typically pay for workshops and presentations directly. However, the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) pays these fees when services are offered through OTN to government agencies within Ontario ministries (e.g., Children, Community, and Social Services; Community, Safety, and Correctional Services; Education; Health and Long-Term Care; and Colleges and Universities).
Please contact us to schedule a Specialized Trauma and Attachment Assessment, a Trauma and Attachment Workshop or Presentation, or to request more information about these services. You may also contact Michelle Langdon, at the CPRI/Western Hub of OTN, regarding OTN and its payment for our workshop/presentation services.
